Zions is a seeking a Risk Officer to join the Operational Risk Oversight team within Operational Risk Management (ORM). Operational risk is inherent in all bank products, services and activities, and the effective management of operational risk is a fundamental element of effective enterprise risk management. The Operational Risk Oversight (ORO) department within Operational Risk Management (ORM), is a second line of defense function, responsible for engaging with the first line of defense to independently identify and assess operational risks and report the results to leadership, management committees and the Board.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include monitoring the quality of risk management activities, influencing, and challenging material risk decisions and ensuring alignment with the Company’s risk appetite across business units within the first line of defense.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
- Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite.
- Review, analyze and evaluate business processes, procedures and controls to assess operational risk mitigation activities.
- Perform data analysis and testing to support conclusions regarding operational risk in processes.
- Analyze and interpret data to support conclusions and identify process improvement and risk mitigation opportunities, including the development and implementation of key controls, key risk indicators and reporting.
- Communicate feedback to process owners and senior management regarding process improvement and operational risk mitigation opportunities.
- Perform issue/observation analysis related to regulatory concerns, audit findings and self-identified issues.
- Review and assess root cause of significant operational risk events and perform associated post event reviews, as needed.
- Perform quarterly control testing validation activities to ensure all key controls are identified, challenged, and properly tested.
- Publish quarterly opinion reports and memos to communicate effectiveness of risk management and control activities and report on deficiencies and related mitigation activities.
- Develop and deliver periodic risk reports to senior and executive management.
- Develop and implement applicable risk training, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Statistics, Math, Economics or related field
- 4-8+ years risk management, analysis, auditing or other directly related experience, preferably the financial services industry.
- A combination of education and experience may meet requirements.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications and other database, analysis, and reporting tools including MS Power BI, and strong Excel and PPT Skills.
- Extensive knowledge of risk and control assessment techniques and concepts, and accounting principles.
- Extensive knowledge of various bank processes including branch procedures, and back-office operations.
- Must have excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to effectively work on a team and with others in various leadership positions.
- Advanced interpersonal, problem resolution, analytical and process mapping skills with IBM Blue Works Live a plus.
- Process Improvement, analytic and automation skills a plus.
- Strong project management skills.
