The Director, Technology Strategy and Governance will hold responsibility for creating, together with her/his peers, the overall technology strategy direction and roadmap for the Zions technology organization. This individual will hold responsibility for building the plans and driving the implementation of this strategy. Additionally, this role will establish, report and ensure appropriate governance to protect the delivery of the committed roadmap and plans. This view will ensure that the strategic direction is implemented on time and within the overall budget. This individual will be responsible to ensure effective organizational communication, including communication to our most senior levels, regularly sharing the strategy, and our ongoing progress against that roadmap.

Zions Bancorporation is currently seeking a Director, Technology Strategy and Governance to join the organization.  This individual will hold the following responsibilities and qualifications.




  • Establish a complete and comprehensive enterprise level technology strategy roadmap.
  • Establish the organization and scaffolding in order to execute the protect the implementation of the enterprise technology strategy.
  • Drive and govern our overall strategy implementation across our most important initiatives including cloud and devops transformation.
  • Hire and develop highly engaged and skilled team members.
  • Create and manage budget and monthly financial reports.
  • Coordinate across a complex organization.
  • Establish an enterprise-wide communication plan to ensure ongoing support and awareness of the strategy.
  • Responsible for executive and board level communication ensuring ongoing support and awareness of the strategy.
  • Drive technology strategy building a private and public cloud hybrid implementation stragey.
  • Implement a technology direction leveraging next generation DevOps, automation and continuous integration and deployment.
  • Experience executing a large scale transformation to next generation, decoupled and fast moving architectures.




  • Requires a Bachelor’s in Information technology, computer science, business or a related field and 10+ years’ experience with project management processes, methodologies and tools, resource and change management practices and techniques or other directly related experience. 
  • A combination of education and experience may meet requirements. 
  • Communication Skills, both written and oral; communication will be required on a broad spectrum to the entire organization, as well as targeted communication and planning with our senior most executive team members.
  • Strategic planning experience, including establishing a technology roadmap and framework.
  • Governance experience, ensuring ongoing alignment to the evolving technology plan.
  • Vendor management experience, to help align and keep our commitments on track, and within an improving cost structure.


This position requires regular face-to-face interaction with teams, business stakeholders, and executives in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area. We will consider candidates in the area or able to relocate to the area.


Also, Zions Bancorporation is building a 400,000-square-foot technology campus in Midvale, Utah. The sustainably built campus will be the company’s primary technology and operations center with features such as:

  • Electric vehicle charging stations and close proximity to Historic Gardner Village UTA TRAX station
  • At least 75% of the building is powered by on-site renewable solar energy
  • Access to outdoor recreation, parks, trails, shareable bikes and locker rooms
  • Large modern cafe with a healthy and diverse menu
  • Healthy indoor environment with ample natural light and fresh air
  • LEED-certified sustainable building that features include the use of low VOC-emitting construction materials
