Zions Bancorporation is currently looking for a Director of Commercial Technology who will lead engineering strategy, delivery, and operations for all technology platforms serving our commercial and business banking clients. This leader will own the technology roadmap for critical products such as Treasury Management, Commercial Lending, and Digital Business Banking. This role is responsible for driving the modernization agenda, delivering reliable and innovative solutions that enhance client experience, support the bank's growth, and manage operational risk. The ideal candidate brings deep engineering expertise, a strong understanding of commercial banking products, and a proven ability to lead high-performing teams. This is a key leadership role that will partner closely with senior business and technology leaders to shape the future of our commercial technology stack.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the multi-year technology roadmap for the Commercial Banking technology portfolio, including Treasury & Payments, Commercial Lending, and Digital Banking platforms.
- Partner with Commercial Banking business leaders to ensure technology solutions align with product strategy, client needs, and revenue goals.
- Drive modernization initiatives, including the evaluation and adoption of FinTech solutions, development of API-driven services, and migration to modern, scalable architectures.
- Champion a "client-first" technology culture, focusing on user experience, platform stability, and speed to market.
Engineering Delivery & Execution
- Lead engineering teams in the design, development, and integration of commercial banking applications and services.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of technology delivery, from initial concept and vendor selection to implementation, and ongoing support.
- Ensure the successful integration of third-party platforms and custom-built solutions to create a seamless ecosystem for clients and internal users.
- Manage the technology portfolio for core commercial services, including treasury management, payments, credit origination, and client onboarding.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure the stability, scalability, and security of all commercial banking platforms, establishing and monitoring key performance indicators.
- Provide leadership during production incidents, platform releases, and client-impacting events to ensure swift resolution and clear communication.
- Develop and maintain robust operational processes, including disaster recovery plans, capacity management, and security protocols.
- Ensure that all platforms and processes are compliant with financial sector regulations, security standards, and internal audit requirements.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, technical product owners, and delivery managers.
- Foster an engineering culture centered on accountability, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and key vendor and partner relationships.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in technology, including leadership roles directing application engineering or product delivery teams.
- Background in commercial banking, corporate banking, or treasury management technology.
- Demonstrated experience defining and executing a technology roadmap aligned with business objectives.
- Proficient with modern technology stacks and architecture patterns, including API-first design, cloud-based services, and microservices.
- Proven track record of delivering complex technology projects and managing a portfolio of applications.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence senior executives, business partners, and technical teams.
Plus
- Prior experience with leading commercial banking platforms (e.g., nCino, Q2, Bottomline, Finastra).
- Experience in a leadership role within a digital transformation or modernization program.
- Understanding of commercial credit, treasury management services (payments, liquidity, receivables), and digital banking solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, DevOps practices, and modern software development lifecycle tools.
Work Location:
This position is fully in office (5 days a week) at the Zions Technology Center - 7860 South Bingham Junction Blvd, Midvale, UT 84047
