Zions Capital Markets brings “bulge bracket” solutions to the business customers of our local affiliates, as the platform is continually expanding our product capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our client base. The platform currently has teams of experienced professionals operating from offices in Salt Lake City, Houston, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale, and Orange County. 

We seek a seasoned Director of Commodities Derivatives Sales to lead origination and client coverage for commodities derivatives and risk management solutions. This role will drive revenue growth, strengthen client relationships, and expand our market footprint by offering bespoke hedging strategies across energy, metals, agriculture, and other commodity classes. The position requires strategic sales leadership, deep product expertise, and the ability to collaborate across complex internal functions. 

This position will be located in the Zions Capital Markets office in Charlotte, NC.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Coverage & Revenue Generation

  • Lead client origination and coverage efforts focused on commodities derivatives (OTC swaps, options, structured products)
  • Build and deepen relationships with corporate, institutional, and strategic clients seeking risk management solutions.
  • Consult with clients to identify commodities exposures, recommend appropriate hedging strategies, and structure tailored commodities solutions.
  • Drive net new fee revenue and market share growth in line with organizational targets.

Product Structuring & Execution

  • Partner with trading, risk, and operations teams to develop competitive pricing and execution strategies.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of derivatives transactions, from pitch through execution and settlement.
  • Ensure solutions align with client objectives and regulatory and credit guidelines specific to bank derivative products. 

Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Head of Commodities Sales and Sales & Trading leadership on market strategy, client segmentation, and portfolio optimization.
  • Identify market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive developments impacting client needs.
  • Work cross-functionally with credit, risk, legal, and compliance to manage exposure and ensure control standards.

Team Development

  • Mentor junior sales personnel and contribute to building a high-performance commodities sales culture.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support.

Thought Leadership

  • Represent Zions Capital Markets externally at client meetings, industry conferences, and thought leadership events.
  • Deliver market insights, pricing trends, and risk management perspectives to clients and internal stakeholders. 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant professional credentials (e.g., CFA, CAIA) preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in commodities derivatives or related risk management sales, with a strong record of client origination and revenue production.
  • Deep understanding of derivatives markets, hedging instruments, and commodities sectors.
  • Established network of corporate and institutional client relationships.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, client communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Preferred

  • Prior experience within a bank, broker-dealer, or financial institution with formal commodities risk management offerings.
  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks impacting OTC derivatives in a bank context.
