Zions Bancorporation’s Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. With a commitment to technology and innovation, we have been providing our community, clients and colleagues the best experience possible for over 150 years. Help us transform our workforce of the future, today.
We are seeking a Cloud Governance Lead. As the Cloud Governance Lead, you will be responsible for establishing and operating the first‑line cloud governance framework that enables the bank to scale cloud adoption securely, responsibly, and in alignment with regulatory expectations. This role ensures that cloud platforms, services, and architectures are deployed with appropriate guardrails for security, risk management, resiliency, and cost transparency.
The Cloud Governance Lead will design and manage the end‑to‑end cloud governance lifecycle, including policies, standards, controls, and operational processes that guide how cloud technologies are selected, configured, monitored, and evolved. Acting as a hands‑on governance leader, you will partner closely with Engineering, Architecture, Information Security, Risk, and Finance to embed governance directly into cloud delivery and operations.
This role is not advisory alone — you are accountable for executing and sustaining governance in the first line while enabling innovation, speed, and safe adoption of cloud capabilities across the enterprise.
Responsibilities:
Cloud Policy & Standards Management
- Establish, maintain, and operationalize the bank’s cloud governance framework, including cloud usage standards, reference architectures, configuration baselines, and guardrails across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS platforms. Ensure governance requirements are embedded directly into cloud onboarding and delivery processes.
Cloud Risk & Control Execution (1LOD)
- Own and operate first‑line controls related to cloud security, resiliency, data protection, identity and access management, logging, and monitoring. Ensure controls are designed and functioning in alignment with internal risk standards and regulatory expectations.
Security & Architecture Alignment
- Partner with Information Security and Enterprise Architecture to ensure cloud environments adhere to approved security patterns, network segmentation, encryption standards, and zero‑trust principles. Actively resolve design gaps and implementation differences in cloud deployments.
Regulatory & Compliance Enablement
- Ensure cloud governance practices support compliance with applicable regulatory guidance (e.g., OCC, FFIEC) by maintaining clear documentation, traceability, and evidence of cloud controls, risk decisions, and approvals. Support internal control testing and regulatory examinations as the cloud governance SME.
Cloud Service Enablement & Intake
- Manage the governance intake process for new cloud services, platforms, and providers, ensuring appropriate risk assessment, architectural review, and approval prior to production use. Streamline intake processes to minimize friction while maintaining strong risk discipline.
Operational Oversight & Issue Management
- Monitor adherence to cloud governance requirements through metrics, dashboards, and exception tracking. Own remediation of cloud governance gaps in the first line and manage risk acceptances, corrective actions, and reporting.
Developer & Platform Enablement
- Serve as the primary cloud governance SME for engineering and platform teams. Provide clear guidance, templates, and training to enable teams to design and deploy compliant cloud solutions efficiently and consistently.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in cloud technology, IT governance, architecture, platform engineering, or technology risk management, with hands‑on experience operating governance in a first‑line environment.
- Strong understanding of cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing cloud governance frameworks, including policies, standards, guardrails, and control execution.
- Solid knowledge of cloud security and resiliency principles, including identity and access management, encryption, logging, monitoring, and shared responsibility models.
- Familiarity with regulatory and risk management expectations relevant to cloud adoption in financial institutions (e.g., OCC, FFIEC, internal risk frameworks).
- Proven ability to partner effectively with Engineering, Architecture, Information Security, Risk, and Finance teams to drive adoption of governance practices.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical cloud concepts into clear risk and control outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.
